A lovely little dry gin made by Sloane’s in the Netherlands. It is named after the 18th century botanist Sir Hans Sloane, who is said to have discovered many of the plants used to flavour gins today. A hearty handful of those botanicals have gone into Sloane’s gin, including iris root, coriander, angelica root, cardamom pods, liquorice root and whole vanilla beans. Rather interestingly, Sloane’s individually distill each of these botanicals for their gin, resulting in a unique flavour profile that seduces the palate.
- Overwhelming fresh orange and citrus (specifically, Spanish sweet oranges and whole lemons)
- Faint hint of juniper
- Coriander
- Delicate and fragrant citrus notes rise over coriander
- Palate: Begins with citrus, followed by juniper, coriander, and other botanicals like cardamom and angelica root
- Finish: Bittersweet, spicy, and long
- Overall: A balance of citrus acidity and the fragrance of botanicals. It’s often described as smooth and not overly sweet or tart.
- Cocktails: Versatile, works well in a Gin & Tonic, Martini, Gimlet, or Gin Rickey
- Sipping: Can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks
- Best for: Often recommended for those getting into gin as the piney juniper is not overwhelming
